Jeremy Dion

Introduction to Jeremy Dion’s Music and Influences

Americana folk artist, Jeremy Dion always loved music!  He mentions, “There is a story told about me as a toddler  sprinting out of the bathtub to go stand naked in front of the speaker to dance to Eddie Rabbitt’s ,  ‘ I Love a Rainy Night’ and that was my first fond memory I recall.”

Jeremy always liked singing and dancing as a child and the piano became his first instrument at age 7. He continued lessons for 8 years and despite his best efforts, he never really learned how to read music and still can’t!  Instead Jeremy learns by ear.  Listening to the tones and sounds at a slower pace has helped him teach himself to play the guitar.

Paul Simon and Jerry Garcia are Jeremy’s all-time favorite singers/songwriters.  He lists artists like James Taylor, John Denver, The Grateful Dead, Derrell Scott, Ryan Adams, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and Crosby, Stills & Nash that have influenced or inspired him.   Jeremy also admires the style of local Boulder contemporary artist Gregory Alan Isakov.

Paving His Own Way

Even though Jeremy is a therapist by day, his first love and passion is music.  He has a background in music therapy and counseling, but Jeremy keeps the two separate.  He has his singer/songwriter career with a band and a private psychotherapy practice primarily working with children. People contribute the most inspiration for Jeremy’s music.  He gets some of his ideas from the clients he works with, his family, spiritual teachers, coworkers, writers, musicians, his own life and spiritual experiences.

Jeremy has been performing for over 20 years and defines his style of music as Folk, Americana and Bluegrass.  Jeremy believes what ties it all together, especially performing on stage, is that he tries to puts as much heart into every moment of the music as possible.  He puts himself into a vulnerable transparent state of openness.  He calls his style Mile High Americana and it definitely has that Colorado vibe.

Jeremy Dion: Up and Coming

Jeremy has two albums out so far with more to come.  In 2008 he released his first album, ‘Finally’ and in 2012 released his latest album, ‘Golden Some Day’.  Both can be purchased on iTunes and CDBaby.com.  Jeremy is on the verge of working on a new recording project at Coupe Studios in Boulder.  You can get a sneak peek to his new album he has been working with a song he collaborated with Peter Sharpe called, ‘Last Time to Question” on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1qjJddYz94).

Jeremy is a definition of a true and talented artist.  Whether it comes from his music or therapy, he wants his influences to create a “heart-centered” community by showing others how to feel compassion and kindness to one another.  Jeremy is also a family man and his favorite place to wind down after a show or studio session is home.  His advice to someone considering a career in music, “Don’t quit your day job.  Put as much time and energy as you can into your music career, but outside of your day job so there’s at least something solid for now.”  Jeremy believes to keep going, pushing, writing and playing because it’s easy to want to quit or have self-doubt when things aren’t taking off right away.  Also, be open to inspiration by other artists.  The more exposure to other’s artworks can open your creativity.
